WPWX is a mainstream urban radio station that serves the Chicago area. WPWX is owned by Crawford Broadcasting, and broadcasts at 92.3 megahertz. WPWX's urban format debuted in the spring of 2001 in an attempt to go head to head with the longtime urban radio leader in Chicago, WGCI-FM (Crawford Broadcasting previously had a Christian talk format on the 92.3 frequency for over 40 years under the call letters WYCA). WPWX currently is the Chicago home to The Rickey Smiley Morning Show, and at one time carried the both the Doug Banks Morning Show and the The Tom Joyner Morning Show (both of whom worked at WGCI from the late 80's until the mid-90's). WPWX radio personalities include Frankie Robinson, The Hot Boyz, DJ Pharris, Ozman, Teefa, J. Grigdes and Chi-Blizz. The station also features mixers DJ Allstyle and DJ Nephets, and the 106 & Park Weekend Countdown hosted by Rocsi and Terrence J.
